Joule’s Brewery is thrilled to announce the completion of the ‘Sparkle’ renovation at Ludlow’s iconic Rose and Crown—the oldest pub in the town.
Over the past weeks, the team have been hard at work, giving the Rose and Crown a sparkle both inside and out, ensuring Ludlow’s oldest pub now stands proud, meeting the high standards it truly deserves. Additionally, with local Jess Flowers taking on the helm of the ship as Landlady of the pub.
Joule’s Brewery’s commitment to enhancing your pub experience comes alive with exciting updates that have transformed the Rose and Crown, Ludlow into a hub of warmth and character.
Joule’s Brewery understands the importance of comfort, and at The Rose and Crown, improvements have been made to the pub’s thermal efficiency, ensuring your visits are enjoyable and cosy all year round. Comfort has been prioritised further with cosy corners on every turn, ready for you to kick back and relax with a drink in hand. The meeting room upstairs has been upgraded, available for various events from birthday dinners to board meetings, this is a private space perfect for any occasion. The pub now includes a plug-and-play system, allowing for local bands to come and play live music.
The bar is now every beer lover’s dream and has been revamped into a dedicated beer shop back bar, offering a unique range of Joule’s beer available on draught, brewed just 52 miles from the pub.
The bar is featuring several exciting new seasonal beers from Joule’s Brewery, including Bodega Bay, Joule’s first West Coast IPA, hopped for ripe aromas and flavours of stone fruit, citrus, honeycomb and pine. Joule’s famous sparkling craft lager, Green Monkey, is also on the bar brewed to the German purity laws of Reinheitsgebot this beer is Clean & fruity with a good bitter-sweet taste.
Further down the bar, you’ll also find a brand new seasonal cask beer, this red copper ale is the perfect welcome to the beginning of this winter’s festive season and is best served by the hearty, roaring fire at the Rose and Crown. Amongst the new faces on the bar, there are familiar crowd favourite ales from the core range, including Joule’s Pale Ale, Pure Blonde Ale, and Slumbering Monk.
Sipping on Joule’s ales in The Rose and Crown is an experience that blends the old with the new, where each sip is a connection to Ludlow’s past and a celebration of its vibrant present. The historic setting, with its exposed beams and reclaimed parquet flooring, harmonizes seamlessly with the modern allure of Joule’s Brewery creations. Other new developments include the recently completed Henry Tudor Inn 1429 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire’s only Grade 1 listed pub.
For those who appreciate the joys of savouring a pint in the great outdoors, the courtyard has undergone a fantastic enhancement, providing a welcoming and relaxing environment. With a pint of Joule’s ale in hand, patrons can soak in the historic ambience, enjoying the company of friends or relishing a moment of solitude. The completion of the ‘Sparkle’ renovation not only marks a milestone in Ludlow’s pub history but also a new era for those seeking an extraordinary beer-drinking experience. As the sun sets over Ludlow, whether sat in the sunshine in beer garden, or by the fire inside, there’s no better place to be than The Rose and Crown.
This transformation follows a meticulous restoration in 2016, resulting in a more spacious pub with cosy nooks and crannies for relaxation. Uncovering a hidden fireplace and revealing beams hidden since the 1960s added to the historic charm. Our emphasis on showcasing the beauty of historic and characterful wood is evident in the flooring, featuring oak blended with old quarry tiling and reclaimed parquet. The original pub has been enriched by the addition of a fantastic panelled ‘Mousebar,’ a sister to Red Lion’s Brewers Hall in Market Drayton. Keep an eye out for wooden mice carved by Robert “Mouseman” Thompson as you enjoy your time at the bar.
Louke Glover, Project Manager at Joules Brewery, is buzzing with excitement about the completed project, saying, “The Rose and Crown is more than just a pub; it’s a piece of Ludlow’s history. This sparkle aims to honour this heritage while offering patrons an even more enjoyable and comfortable experience. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this exciting transformation.”
