The White Horse Inn, Wrexham

Tap house was built by brewer Soames in 1898

The current White Horse was built by brewer Soames in 1898, it re-emerged from the original White Horse, built over 400 years earlier, which suffered a fire. It was re-built as a Victorian coaching inn but also with a bar for the village workers who served the nearby estate Bryn y Pys. The various rooms from the original design have now been reinstated and restored. Overton is famous for contributing to the ‘seven wonders of wales’ where the Yew Tree only 200 yards away from our Brewery Tap stand in Overton’s church yard and is estimated to be over 2,000 years old.

The White Horse is located 20 miles from the Brewery on the west side of our estate near Wrexham, where we have our most westerly house the Royal Oak, on Wrexham high street. We went to great lengths in Flintshire’s records library to find the original Soame’s plans showing the White Horse’s original parlour pub layout. These are now on display at the pub and form a fascinating insight into community life at the time. The plans gave real inspiration to our restoration project to bring back ‘the village pub’, unspoilt, friendly and the hub of the community. We were are so proud of the work carried out at the White Horse, that we entered the national pub design awards for restoration and in 2008 we were awarded ‘High Recommendation’ for our labour of love.

The back bar has a real fire and is just as cosy as the front room and all the old stores at the back have been converted into the most characterful space for country pub dining. To the rear there is great red brick walled beer garden, which catches the afternoon sun and hosts the Wrexham Real Ale Trail annually. There is a fantastic village function room on the second floor, perfect for family get togethers, parties, music and community meetings.

Always on Tap, Joule’s Pale Ale, Slumbering Monk, Pure Blonde and our English craft lager Green Monkey, alongside our rotating seasonal ale and cold craft beer. All brewed in Market Drayton with pure Shropshire mineral water.

Easy street parking right outside the pub.
