Don’t miss, the huge range of clubs and societies the Castle does have for everyone
The Castle, named after the long gone Wem Castle, is the oldest pub in Wem evidenced by the county maps and census records. The building is ancient and dates back over 400 years and is pretty much the oldest building in the Joule’s estate. Wem is a delightful county town with a handful of specialist shops and not one, but two, Joule’s Taphouses! The Castle is right in the centre of the High Street and just the kind of pub the Brewery loves, the older the better, especially pubs that have been in constant use, these old inns have a special aura and atmosphere.
During the restoration, the Brewery revealed ancient beams and oak frames, old fireplaces and oak floors. The pub has a cosy bar leading to a rear snug which was once the old kitchen and still has the original bells on the wall.
The Castle also boasts a great meeting room, tucked away quietly but still handy for the bar and available for free to local businesses, community groups and clubs. The lounge side is equally charming with some low beamed ceilings extending to the dining area. The pub has a fantastic sunny walled courtyard garden, once the yard to Wem Brewery, it makes for a lovely place for a contemplative pint or a jolly time with a group of friends.
Dogs and children are welcome, and parking is just a hop, skip and jump away at the local Wem pay and display – the most affordable car park the Brewery has come across charging just £0.30 for a whole days parking.
Always on Tap, Joule’s Pale Ale, Slumbering Monk, Pure Blonde and our English craft lager Green Monkey, alongside our rotating seasonal ale and cold craft beer. All brewed in Market Drayton with pure Shropshire mineral water.
Don’t miss, the huge range of clubs and societies, from Golf, Darts, Dominoes & Scooters the Castle really does have something for everyone…
