This year's special brew is none other than the Double Dry Hop India Pale Ale (DDHIPA) to celebrate 10 fantastic years of Calcutta. Our talented team of brewers has meticulously crafted this beer, pushing the boundaries of flavour and aroma. Calcutta was inspired by Robert Clive, also known as ‘Clive of India’ was born in a neighbouring village to The Brewery and became Military Officer in the British Army establishing the military and political supremacy of the East India Company in Bengal. He is credited with securing India, and the wealth that followed for the British crown. The first of these conquests was the battle of Calcutta in February 1757, inspiring a series of further victories.
Clive of India died in 1774 and is buried in St Margaret’s Parish Church at Moreton Say, Market Drayton.
