Joule’s Brewery, local Brewery based in Market Drayton, acquired The New Inn in Harborne in May of 2024, we’ve spent some time getting to know the pub, the locals, and the area. And now are absolutely delighted to share some exciting news that we have submitted plans to bring a bit of our Shropshire charm to this wonderful pub. As a local brewery, we’ve always believed in the power of great pubs to bring people together, and we’re very excited to see what this next chapter at the New Inn Harborne will bring.

For years, we’ve admired The New Inn from afar, and now that it’s part of the Joule’s estate, we’re ready to give it some much-needed love and attention. We’re looking to compliment the already existing charm from the New Inn, We want to give it a fresh breath of life while keeping all the things you love about it.

Our plans for The New Inn are all about making it a warm, welcoming space for everyone. We will be working on adding layers of materials to revive some of the history of the New Inn, including reclaimed bricks and panelling amongst other materials. Our aim is to make it feel more comfortable and inviting, with plenty of seating for those casual drinks with friends or a hearty meal with family. Outside, we’re planning a full refresh to make sure the pub looks as welcoming from the street as it feels once you walk in. This includes landscaping, refreshed lighting, and comfortable seating to make the space enjoyable year-round. This is a significant investment for us, of around £600,000, and we’re committed to doing it right – creating a pub Harborne can truly be proud of.

In the kitchen, we’re investing in upgrades to deliver a classic, high-quality pub menu made with locally sourced ingredients, perfectly paired with Joule’s ales. We’re excited to bring our classic, simple, and well-done pub menu to The New Inn. Joule’s taphouses pride themselves on delicious, well-sourced dishes that are hearty and satisfying. We want everyone to feel at home here, so our menu will be accessible and affordable, without compromising on quality.

Of course, we’ll be pouring Joule’s ales from the tap – proudly brewed in Market Drayton, Shropshire with the finest local ingredients, including our pure Shropshire mineral water – drawn straight from source. We want The New Inn to be a hub for our beers in Harborne, offering a great selection of our ales and craft beers that we hope you’ll enjoy as much as we do.

Anna Brakel, Development Director at Joule’s Brewery comments: “The New Inn is a special site and one that we are very proud to now call a Joule’s Brewery Taphouse, we are committed to bringing Joule’s Brewery to Birmingham and are pleased to reveal that this will be our biggest investment in a Taphouse to date. It’s key for us to share our plans with locals and engage them in this process.”

This project at The New Inn marks one of our most ambitious undertakings since we built our second flagship site, Crown Wharf, in Stone. That development, a £3.5 million investment, was a labour of love and a proud moment for us, culminating in winning the CAMRA Pub Design Awards’ ‘New Build’ category in 2021. Crown Wharf was particularly meaningful as it represented our return to Stone, the spiritual home of Joule’s Brewery. Now, with The New Inn, we’re taking another significant step in our journey back to old Staffordshire, where Joule’s once flourished.

Vicky Colclough, Managing Director of Joule’s Brewery comments: “We believe that all pubs are honeypots of the community, our plans are to create the New Inn to be once again a centre for the community of Harborne and the wider towns. Protecting those special spaces such as the snug and original bar, but adding in more flexible spaces, an improved outdoor area and increasing dining to allow a lovely fresh pub food menu, filled with old and new favourites.’”

We want to share our excitement and plans with as many of you as possible and that’s why we are hosting an open day.

That’s where you come in, we’re hosting a Public Consultation evening on Thursday, 16th January 2025 from 5pm to 7pm at The New Inn.

We will have plenty of Team members on hand to go through all the questions you may have. We want to make sure that this pub becomes a place that you’re excited to visit. We’ll also keep everyone updated as things move forward, so stay tuned on our social media and website.
