Joule’s Brewery is delighted to share an exciting update on our plans for The New Inn, Harborne. Earlier this year, we submitted our vision for the pub’s future, and after months of anticipation, our plans have now been validated. This is a significant moment for us as a small Shropshire brewery, and we are so proud to be taking this next step.

Following the fantastic turnout at our public consultation evening on Thursday, 16th January 2025, where we had the pleasure of meeting so many locals and sharing our plans, we were delighted by the overwhelmingly positive response from the community. It was a brilliant opportunity to listen to feedback and talk about what lies ahead for The New Inn. We are coming up to a full year now since we purchased The New Inn, and we have spent the last 12 months listening to our locals and learning about the space they want and need. We feel confident that we can deliver this.

Over £2 million will be dedicated to restoring and enhancing this wonderful pub, our largest taphouse investment to date, ensuring it remains a cherished local landmark while elevating the experience for everyone who walks through it’s doors. We’re taking great care to respect the pub’s historic charm while making thoughtful improvements to create a warm and welcoming space for all.

At the heart of our vision are the beautifully preserved Victorian parlour rooms, the old snugs, which will remain untouched, offering a quiet space for a peaceful pint, a game of dominoes, or simply a moment to read the paper. The main bar area on the Vivian Road side will be refreshed to create a relaxed and informal space, perfect for casual dining and gatherings over sharing plates and grazing boards. We know how much the community loves the old bar, and we’re keeping it just as it is—it’s a firm favourite among regulars, and we wouldn’t dream of changing it. A new garden room and covered terrace will extend from the bar, designed with reclaimed brick and classic Joule’s features to create a characterful space for group dining and social occasions. Beyond this, the new beer garden will be one of area’s best, a welcoming and social space, perfect for long afternoons with friends over a few pints of Joule’s.

Joule’s Development Director, Anna Brakel, shared her excitement about the project, saying, “This has been years in the making for us, and we are incredibly proud to finally see our plans move forward. We have been humbled by the support from the Harborne community, and it means the world to us that people care so deeply about The New Inn. We are committed to preserving everything that makes it special while bringing it up to the highest standard.”
Joule’s Managing Director, Vicky Colclough, added, “As a small, independent brewery, we have been saving up for an investment like this for a long time. It’s a huge moment for us, and we feel incredibly grateful to be in a position to make this kind of commitment to a historic pub like The New Inn. We know how much this place means to the locals, and we share that sentiment completely. Our job is to make sure we do right by the pub and the community who love it.”
