Rock and Bowl Festival, a not for profit community event, was born and raised in the small town of Market Drayton, Shropshire the home of Joule’s Brewery.
Just like your favourite Pub, the community focus is the very foundation on which the festival runs. Over three days every May Bank Holiday weekend the event sets the stage for a variety of artists, including some of the UK’s best tribute acts, indie/rock bands, Bollywood dancers, blues and ska performers, the list goes on. Very much like beer, this festival doesn’t fit into any one genre… and doesn’t want to either. So it seemed difficult for Joule’s Brewery to find a reason why they wouldn’t want to launch their first ever Lager at the festival, and the success of this partnership shows now in its fifth year.
Pip, Marketing Assistant at Joule’s Brewery explains “Joule’s English Craft Lager Green Monkey is brewed to the German purity laws of Reinheitsgebot meaning that the beer is never pasteurised or artificially carbonated guaranteeing Brewery freshness as well as premium taste and texture. Most importantly for Rock and Bowl, it is only brewed at the top of the hill on which the festival sits. The beer travels less than a mile from where it is brewed to where it is served.”
Pip adds “You could almost roll the barrels there by hand, but now the event get through over 30 barrels a year it would be a heck of a job. It’s safe to say the people of Market Drayton love their local Lager enjoying 2,800 pints last year at the festival alone”
Vicky Shirley Brand Manager for Joule’s Brewery adds “We wanted to do something a little different to reward loyal Green Monkey drinkers. So for 2019 Rock and Bowl will become the year of the Green Monkey Gallon. Over the weekend festival goers can be in with a chance of winning not only their Green Monkey Festival T-shirt but a limited edition pair of Green Monkey Sunglasses too. All they need is to collect their Year of the Green Monkey Gallon stamp card and start collecting stamps, one for every pint of Green Monkey they drink, just 8 pints over 3 days.”
To get in the mood for May join Joule’s for a party at the Brewery at their Rock and Bowl Warm Up Weekend this Easter Sunday, the 21st of April, from 2 pm with Live Music from Custard Connection, Hairy Eyeball and returning festival favourite Peter Jones.
