Built forever ago, well, in 1753, the Sandbrook Vaults is homed within a quaint picturesque Tudor building in the heart of Market Drayton. The ‘Vaults’ as it’s locally known is small in stature but packs a punch with character, wooden panelling brimming with charm, lovely leather bench seating, and just a hop, skip and a jump from the Brewery, 476 yards to be precise.
The pub holds regular live acoustic music nights on a Thursday and Sunday showing high-quality regional musicians, that in its self is worth a visit along with a regular bi-monthly quiz night in aid of charity. Always on tap, you are guaranteed to find a perfect pint of Joule’s Pale Ale, Pure Blonde, Slumbering Monk and Green Monkey English Craft Lager as well as a rotating seasonal ale which showcase some experimental and additional flavours. You may even bump into the brew team sat round the bar enjoying a pint or two too.
CAMRA has been highlighting the best pubs in the country since 1988, showcasing the pubs worth seeking out and visiting. The real cream of the crop and the best place to enjoy a pint of real ale. Each year local branch members nominate one pub in their area to be entered. Up to 200 pubs then go through to the regional competition where the top 16 are selected, this is then whittled down to four regional finalists and one of these will become the ultimate winner.
Joule’s Brewery is proud to announce that Laurence and his team at the Sandbrook Vaults have not only been presented with Market Drayton CAMRA Pub of the Year Award 2019 but also overall Telford & East Shropshire CAMRA Award 2019. The Vaults will now also be put forward for Shropshire CAMRA Pub of the Year 2019.
Laurence commented “Running a pub is a way of life so to have your way of life endorsed in such a manner by our local CAMRA feels quite surreal and such a boost to our self-belief in all we do here and the values we believe in.
Please pass on our appreciation and best regards to the group”
Pip, Joule’s Brewery adds “We are proud of Laurence and his team’s achievement, the Vaults may be our smallest pub within the estate but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in community spirit. You are always greeted with the warmest welcome from both the bar staff and the locals who you would be more than happy to share a story with over a pint of Joule’s. Good luck to the Sandbrook Vaults as they go through to the next stage of the Pub of the Year Awards.”
