Fine town tavern that is just 4 and a half yards wide
The Royal Oak, is a fine town tavern; grade two listed, sitting in the heart of Wrexham within the old quarter amidst the banks and grand buildings which made this lovely town the commercial heart of North Wales. Not many people know that Wrexham is home to one of the ‘Seven Wonders of Wales’ St Giles Church Steeple, which can be seen from miles around. Our Wrexham Brewery Tap is squashed in amongst all these big buildings on the High Street of this impressive town.
The Royal Oak is a long, long pub but just 4 and a half yards wide. It’s cosy with a real fire and a warm welcome and naturally specialises in Joule’s Ales. The Brewery has restored the pub, reintroducing oak panelling and it has been calculated that this pub has the most mitres of panelling (i.e. each panelled corner) of all the Joule’s estate, despite it being the smallest pub.
We were delighted when the design of the Royal Oak was recognised by English Heritage and CamRA 2010, the third time the Brewery has won an award for Pub restoration. The Judges praised the care and sympathetic treatment of the grade II listed building and ‘the ambition, clearly evident revealing the tremendous pride of a local brewer’.
There are small well-kept outdoor areas to both the front and back for drinking, chatting and smoking, and well-behaved dogs are always welcome. You can find easy parking in one of the town’s central car parks.
Always on Tap, Joule’s Pale Ale, Slumbering Monk, Pure Blonde and our English craft lager Green Monkey, alongside our rotating seasonal ale and cold craft beer. All brewed in Market Drayton with pure Shropshire mineral water.
Don’t miss, ‘Wrexfest’ an acoustic music festival held annually at the Royal Oak over the last weekend in July.
