Joule’s Brewery is delighted to announce the purchase of the White Horse, Shrewsbury.
The local Shropshire Brewers are based just a stone’s throw away from the county town in nearby Market Drayton. Joule’s beer brewed with Shropshire mineral water is drawn from a local aquifer, the water is naturally filtered through sandstone and bunter pebbles. These beers can be found on Tap in the nearby Bricklayers Arms, Copthorne and Dolphin on St Michaels Street in Shrewsbury.
Vicky Shirley, Joule’s Brand Manager explains, ‘When the opportunity arose for us to buy the White Horse, we found it difficult to imagine why anyone could ever part with it, we snapped it up, and our whole team is very proud that it is a part of our company and want it to be the best that it can be.’ The White Horse is now a part of a small select group of Joule’s Brewery Taphouses across Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire.
Vicky adds, ‘It’s essential to us that we get this right. We are going to take our time in converting the White Horse into a Joule’s Taphouse. We first need to listen to the customers, learn about the community and settle in before making great changes. The White Horse is an ambitious project for us; we’re all excited and a little bit daunted at the same time; we have admired the White Horse from afar for many years.’
Marie Poole, Project Manager for Joule’s Brewery, adds, ‘It will be a big scheme here to evolve the pub and bring back some of the beautiful features that in time have been hidden. It will be a little while before you see any huge changes at the White Horse. We have some exciting ideas – but that’s only half of it. We’ve bought the pub; we now need to knuckle down and save up so we can do the White Horse justice.’
The White Horse, re-opened its doors on Friday 1st March, with customers enjoying a free half of ale from the Brewery alongside sausage rolls sourced from local organic Farm Fordhall, where the happy herd of pigs are fed off the Brewery’s spent grain.
