Market Drayton based Palethorpes teamed up with Joule's Brewery in the town in November last year to create an Ultimate Pie & Pie Treat for Market Drayton to enjoy at the 'Christmas Festival of Lights Switch On'. The presentation took place in early January with staff present from Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital to accept the cheque.
The Pie and Pint event was available throughout the day on Saturday 22nd at the Red Lion, the town’s Brewery Tap. For £5, you were able to purchase a Steak & Ale Pie, Chips, Peas and Gravy and a pint of your favourite Joule’s Ale. For every transaction a £1 was donated to the Children’s Oncology Ward at Telford Hospital; a charity very close to all our hearts.
Joule's Marketing Controller, Trudie Meredith commented, ‘we were delighted to announce this event for the third year running, it has become a real local tradition for the town. Following a couple of successful years we were very keen to make this a community event that the locals look out for and look forward to every year. Palethorpes were extremely generous in donating the pies and it kept us very busy in the brewery producing a few extra barrels for the day.
Brett Rogers, Palethorpes commented, ‘It is tough times at the moment for all businesses so it’s great to see a local good news story. We have a great relationship with Joule’s and the locality of the Brewery provides us with enormous flexibility and the ability to work closely together on important projects. Despite being a small brewery they have enormous expertise in brewing and are very well organised. And of course share the same values of passion and commitment to our respective products. We were happy once again to support Joule’s in raising money to support a local cause that has helped a number of Palethorpes employees and their families over the years’.
Local businesses Joule’s & Palethorpes have invited a number of staff with Janice Llewellyn, Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist from the Oncology ward at Telford Hospital this Wednesday to the Brewery and will be entertaining them with lunch and a tour of the Brewery, providing an opportunity to hand over the cheque for £200 for the funds raised on the day.
