Market Drayton's annual Cricket Festival returns for a third year on Sunday 21st June, with eight local teams competing for the highly coveted local title. The all-day family event coincides with Father's Day, with sponsors Joule's Brewery planning to celbrate with complimentary beer vouchers on offer to all those Dads who make it down on the day.
Market Drayton Cricket Club’s annual cricket festival, more famously known as the JOULE’S SUPER 8’s takes place this Sunday 21st June from 9.30am at Market Drayton Cricket Club’s home, the town’s Sports and Leisure Club on Betton Road and is set to be another exciting and successful day.
Joule’s Brewery is the principle sponsor of the Cricket Club and sees its involvement once again extend to the ever-popular mid-season event. Market Drayton Cricket Club’s Chairman, Jonathan Caldecott, commented that the club are proud to be hosting its third annual Super 8s competition and revealed that “this year’s competition sees a change to playing rules with a few twists thrown in by our Australian overseas player, Rhys Saunders”. In addition to the changes to the gameplay, there will also be two 60-yard dash races on the day, with prizes on offer for both male and female winners.
Joule’s Brewery have worked closely with MDCC since 2010, when the current sponsorship deal was first agreed, and have been heavily involved ever since. Cricket has been played at the ground on Betton Road for 130 years and is the centre of the clubs activities. Trudie from Joule’s commented. “The club has supported the Red Lion, the Brewery Tap for many years, so to be the clubs main sponsor is a natural fit for the Brewery and reflects our marketing strategy; supporting the town, its community and events”.
Eight local teams will be competing for the chance to be crowned this year’s winners. Joule’s Brewery have a team in the draw for Sunday and will be joined by The Lord Hill, The Sandbrook Vaults, Market Drayton Hockey Club (two entries), Barbers Estate Agents, The Shropshire Disability Team and last year’s champions Meadons Insurance.
The all-day event is once again set to be a great family day out, with the Joule’s Craft Beer Bus, fresh from its Rock and Bowl Festival debut last month, also on hand throughout the day serving the famous Pale Ale as well as Green Monkey Craft Brewed Lager. The club also have a fully stocked clubhouse bar and BBQ available to refresh and refuel throughout the day. This year sees the festival coincide with Father’s day, and to celebrate Joule’s will be offering complimentary Green Monkey beer vouchers to all Dad’s on the day redeemable on the Joule’s bus.
